Rich with rural roots and about 500,000 villages, India is getting there to promote Rural Tourism. About 70% of Indian population resides in villages.
With the simple lifestyles,the cultural and natural heritage, India reflects as rural heartland on the world map. As per the Incredible India campaign by Ministry of Tourism,there are around 15 sites already there for Rural Tourism while a dozen of tourism sites are to be added.
Hodka (Kachchh,Gujarat), Kumbalanghi (Ernakulam, Kerala), Naggar (Kullu,Himachal Pradesh) and Ballavpur Danga (Birbhum,West Bengal) are the ready sites, extending to Kazhugumalai (Thoothukudi,Tamil Nadu), Jageshwar (Almora, Uttarakhand), Nagarnar (Bastar,Chhattisgarh), Raghurajpur (Puri,Orissa), Anegondi (Koppal,Karnataka) and Mukutmonipur (Bankura,West Bengal) for the next phase.(See ref.)
Rajasthan has been one of the most popular tourist destinations in India with the Dhanis,Pagdis,charpais and dal-bati. Bichoon near Jaipur and Abhaneri in Dausa district have been identified as two ideal villages for rural tourism.
Indian urban population have sure started tracking this path of being closer to nature. Organizations have also started preferring taking employees to such places for Recreation, team building or other training venues.
