Natural Dyes & Tattoo

Henna (Mehndi) is used for coloring and conditioning hair for centuries. Henna is also used for body art or tattooing. The powder made from Henna leaves is soaked for a few hours (2 to 3 or overnight) and then used for drawing art on bodies or hair coloring.

Henna used for tattooing is an age old practice in India. The colors are rich and beautiful. This kind of tattoo is completely natural, painless and has a beautiful fragrance. Henna also has a cooling effect. The plus is also that it automatically fades off in a couple of weeks and one can have an all new design.

For hair, most Indian women use henna as a conditioner and as natural dye to cover grey or give a nice reddish brown tinge to hair. For best results they add natural hair oil to avoid dryness and curd or yogurt to get rid off dandruff. For richer hues a teaspoon of coffee powder or water boiled with one tsp of tea leaves are also added.

Henna is mostly available at all Indian Grocery Stores. Sojat, Pali Marwar in Rajasthan, India are major Henna producing areas and known for their quality.
