Saturn - a slow moving planet
Saturn, also known as Shani (Vedic Astrology) and Satan is a planet of great interest and dread. Vedic Astrology has great significance for Saturn among all the nine planets, it takes into account. Saturn is known to be the slowest moving and for the same reason it is also called as ‘Manda’ (Slow). Saturn stays in a zodiac sign for 2.5 years; therefore, to travel through all the twelve zodiac signs, Saturn takes whole 30 years! Comparatively this stay in one zodiac sign is just about 30-45 days by most of the other planets. Jupiter stays for one in one sign while Moon’s stay is only 2.25 days. If one is experiencing delays or unchanging times or impediments, it can easily be attributed to Saturn.
Saturn and its debilitation
Saturn is cold, dry and planet of darkness and limitations. Venus and Mercury are his friends while Jupiter and Mars are in his opposite camps. Saturn is debilitated in the sign Aries (ruled by Mars) while exalted in the sign Libra (ruled by Venus). Saturn’s debilitation is not desirable as he would be unhappy. After every 30 years Saturn will be debilitated as it transits through the sign Aries. Currently Saturn is transiting through sign Virgo. It will enter sign Aries in the year 2028. Before this it was in its debilitation in 1998, and before that in1969. This way in every 30 years Saturn debilitates. People born during these years may have more challenges than others in their lives depending upon the house where Saturn is placed and what it rules. Especially if Saturn Mahadasha operates in ones’ life when it is debilitated, challenges may be huge.
Saturn and its placement
In Vedic Astrology there are twelve houses. Saturn is happy in trik (malefic) houses i.e. 3rd, 6th and 11th houses in the natal chart or from the natal position of the Moon. While its transit or placement in 12th, 8th or lagna in the natal chart or natal moon chart can be called as the most testing phases in life. Lagna is being or health, 8th house is obstacles, death and 12t house is expenses, losses or foreign lands. Depending upon the operating dashas or antardashas these significations occur in one’s life. For example, if Saturn is occupying eight house, the native will experience too many obstacles and delays in life in general and the houses that Saturn aspects. Saturn occupying fifth house will cause limitations in love and romance and will cause substantial delay in progeny.
Saturn is known to be a general malefic planet known to be the justice master. It is said that he has been assigned the duty of punishing people for their evil deeds. Saturn tests through patience, perseverance and people may just bend down to their knees or fall flat when the task master starts his work. But people who endure such drastic phases in life probably are more enriched, insightful and get a different perspective and deeper meaning of lives.
