Whole Wheat Rotis from India

Also known as Phulka or Chapati, Roti (unleavned bread) is the staple Diet of India. Served with cooked vegetable and lentils/pulses and/or yogurt (raita) on the side, roti is the main filling ingredient, especially in the North India. Younger generation finds rotis a little boring, and get tempted by western (pizzas, burgers or pastas) or oriental (chowmein, noodles etc.) foods. Busy working couples find roti making quite time consuming or mundane. Non-vegetarians yearn for meat, fish, eggs. However, with the increasing health awareness and preferences for Light & Vegetarian diets, Rotis are being appreciated and adapted in South India as well as other parts of the world. Whole wheat rotis are healthy, filling and Nutritious. Read more on Health benefits here

How rotis are made?
How rotis are made?
Whole wheat are ground into flour. Adding a little water to the flour dough is made. For best results warm water is used and flour can be kept aside for 25-30 minutes. Out of small dumplings (balls) Rotis are rolled (powdering it in dry flour) and cooked on tawa (flat pan). The smaller the balls and thinner the rolled rotis, the softer they will be. Thin rotis easily steam up like a ball and are too soft to Eat. These should be served warm. When served hot they do not need any ghee/butter.For health purposes olive oil can be applied to rotis.

Well, no doubt, Rotis are most healthy and wholesome food. For working
couples....there are equivalent options...like the very famous 'Theplas' of
Gujarat which are sold in every corner shop in gujarat. These Thepalas are like
thin Pranthas but quite spicy and tasty and can be consumed even without curd or
vegetable curry, I even saw ready to bake rotis being sold in shopping malls in
Delhi though i never tried the same bcoz the taste and hygiene of freshly
cooked home made rotis are beyond comparison....so buddies...go for rotis...
infact this is first article on Rotis i observed on any website or literature
before...i congratulate kandmoool for this really very commonly ignored health
tip.
